About

Hanneke ter Horst

My work originates in free movement; a form of perception that requires to use the body. My process consists of a sequence of actions as touching, cutting, cooking, looking and sewing. These movements make me aware of the sensations of my body. It is about being moved and reacting to it. It is a state of mind that is not hindered by words or theories. Without a well-defined framework, I can open my attention to what surrounds me and there is room to see what presents itself.

I explore the position of the body. I consider the body as a site of tension, an organized physical substance full of divergences and contradictions. The connection between different forces and what happens there, the experience of real life itself, in its irreducible multiformity that is what concerns me.
